NDA ally and LJP president Chirag Paswan on Friday took a dig at the Nitish Kumar government saying over 14.5 lakh people in Bihar are unable to get ration benefits during the lockdown as the state government is yet to provide them ration cards.
CM Nitish Kumar on Friday asked officials to provide employment under the MGNREGS to even those migrant workers who have returned from other states in the lockdown and don’t have job cards.
Sakunat and Sheikhana localities in Biharsharif, from where 27 people have so far been tested positive for coronavirus, have turned containment zones to prevent spread of the deadly disease. The district administration has completely sealed these two localities and barred people from leaving the areas without prior permission from the officials concerned.

A Patna high court division bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S Kumar on Thursday directed the social welfare department to install a dedicated toll-free help line to deal with problems faced by orphanages, old age homes and centres for disabled persons in the state due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday asked the officials concerned to ensure door-to-door screening of people on the pattern of polio eradication campaign in all the districts for ascertaining the possible presence of coronavirus symptoms in them at the initial stage. However, the districts have to be first prioritized for the screening exercise, the CM said at a review meeting.
The state health department on Thursday made it mandatory for everyone to wear mask in public places. The order was prompted by a steep rise in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state in the past few days.
Bihar reported 19 new Covid-19 positive cases on Thursday, taking the total number of cases to 162. So far, altogether 44 people have recovered and two have died while there are 116 active cases in the state now.
The growing scarcity of groundwater with the advent of summer in different parts of the state has made the fight against Covid-19 more challenging. Washing hands every now and then and maintaining cleanliness require lots of water. It is really a herculean task for a vast majority of the people who do not have access to safe drinking water.
